A pani puri seller grabbed eyeballs and started a social media chatter after a content creator revealed his earnings – of ₹90,000 per month, leaving many on the internet in disbelief. The street vendor’s income came to light when digital creator Cassy Pareira spent the day helping the stall.
Pareira assisted the vendor with a variety of tasks, from chopping onions and peeling potatoes to preparing fillings for puris, serving food and handling customers.
In the now-viral clip, the content creator shared that the stall sold over 120 puris in just an hour. He explained that after a short intermission, business quickly took off as the crowd grew throughout the evening. Pareira, who also interacted with several visitors throughout the day, described the public’s response and support as “amazing”.
Distribution of earnings
The shop is open from 16:00 to 22:00 and offers plates included in the price ₹30 each. On average, about 80 to 100 plates are sold each day, which is the estimated daily income ₹3000.
Based on these numbers, the business generates approx ₹90,000 per month and around ₹10.8 million annually, Pareira said.
Mixed reactions online
The video immediately went viral and Pareira urged viewers to share it with their BCom-chasing friends. While many viewers applauded the retailer’s entrepreneurial spirit, a significant portion of social media expressed doubts about the claims, particularly questioning the calculations and feasibility of achieving such profits.
Reacting to the video, one netizen wrote, “His earnings are higher than my CTC.”
Another commented, “The best thing about owning a grocery store is free food for life.”
A third user sarcastically said, “He has a personal problem with BCom graduates.”
A fourth user asked, “But how much does a BCom graduate earn?”
GST check in similar case
Meanwhile, a pani puri vendor from Tamil Nadu came under the scrutiny of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities last year after allegedly receiving online payments of Rs. ₹40 thousand during the financial year 2023-24. The notice, which was widely circulated on social media, ordered the seller to appear in person and provide financial records of transactions for the past three years.
The seller was summoned under Section 70 of the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act and the Central GST Act on 17 December 2024. The GST regulations mandate that businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹40 million must register and comply with tax rules.
