As the Himachal Pradesh government steps up efforts to promote green industries suited to its unique geographical and ecological conditions, the state government plans to invest ₹3,000 crore in the tourism sector.
Assuring that the state government will provide all possible support and necessary facilities to the industry, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged industry leaders to invest in the state’s tourism, food processing and information technology sectors.
He was speaking in Shimla, where he chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Himachal Pradesh Annual Conference on “Building a Future-Ready Himachal Pradesh for a Better Tomorrow: Leveraging Local Strengths for Global Competitiveness” on 19
The Chief Minister said that the government is actively promoting investment in tourism and hospitality. “The government plans to invest ₹3,000 crore in tourism in the coming times,” he added.
“Helipads, heli-taxi services”
“Helipads are being constructed at district headquarters and leading tourist spots of the state, he added, adding that heli-taxi services have already been introduced, with plans to expand this facility. Besides, expansion of Kangra airport is underway,” he said.
Mr. Sukhu assured that harassment of industrialists will not be tolerated and their grievances can be brought directly to him. He said that a ‘Bulk Drug Park’ is being built at Haroli in Una district where several incentives are being offered to investors.
Emphasizing the improvement in the single window system, he said that all permits for industries should be given at one place and the Industries department should actively help investors.
“Fodder of Northern India”
Describing Himachal Pradesh as the “lungs of northern India” and the “water bowl”, the chief minister claimed that the hill state has long been denied its due share. He said that the financial assistance under Article 275(1) of the Constitution, which was previously provided to the state as a revenue deficit subsidy, had been discontinued and that his government was actively fighting for its restoration.
