
What salary does Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy take home? His basic salary per month is ₹411,000 as per the figures detailed in the budget papers present on 20 March 2026. This is the first time that the chief minister’s salary details have been made public. However, there were no details about the salary of the other ministers. Other highly paid state government officials include Chief Justice: ₹250,000, Special Chief Secretary to Government: ₹250,000 and Chairman (TGAFWC) and various Commission Chairmen: ₹225,000.
The Ministry of Education has the largest wage budget, with a strength of 143,356. Ten years earlier, in 2016-17, there were 144,542 more employees in the Education Department. A decrease of 1,000 teaching staff. In 2016-17, 47,860 school assistants drew a salary in the pay band of ₹28,940-78,910, while there were 58,995 secondary teachers in the pay band of ₹21,230-63,010. In 2026–27, there are 56,875 secondary teachers whose pay scale has increased to ₹31,040–92,050. Similarly, there are 52,744 school assistants in the pay band of ₹31,040-92,050.
The Police Department is the second largest employer as a department with 98,497 employees. Major part is 17,893 in Hyderabad Commissionerate, 7,837 in Malkajgiri and 7,293 in Cyberabad Commissionerate. This shows an increase in the number of police personnel as they were only 76,693, of which 15,428 were in the Hyderabad Commissionerate and 6,028 were in the Cyberabad Commissionerate. An increase of over 28%.
Health and medical departments were the third largest employer with 69,387 employees. The bulk of the staff is in the Medical Education Department with 30,275 teaching and support staff. A decade earlier, the number of employees in the medical department was much lower at 47,901. An increase of 44% in line with the expansion of medical facilities in the state.
According to the 2026–27 budget documents, the largest category in the police department is 65,000 police constables drawing a salary of ₹24,280–72,850. There were 16,000 head constables in the pay grade of ₹31040-92050. In contrast, in 2016–17, there were only 25,753 constables in various categories drawing pay in the ₹16,400–49,870 band, while there were 6,582 head constables in the ₹21,230–63,010 band.
