Nayar supports Rinku, Ramandeep to Step Up
At KKR’s pre-season press conference, along with Shane Watson, captain Ajinkya Rahane and mentor Dwayne Bravo, head coach Abhishek Nayar expressed confidence in the young core of the team.“Andre Russell has been the flag bearer of this franchise for many years. What he has done over the years in T20 cricket will be difficult to emulate. But this is a season of opportunity. We have Rinka and Ramandeep who can step up and do something for their franchise like before. When we play in the IPL, there is pressure when we want our players to have real name and real potential. A lot of young cricketers in our set-up who can cement their name in the legacy of the franchise, Rinku took charge for India and KKR and Ramandeep also did it for us in the season we won the championship, so we hope they can repeat those performances and create something special for this series. The 37-year-old all-rounder will return to KKR as the strength coach for IPL 2026, citing the physical demands of playing as the reason for hanging up his boots.
