The Telangana government proposed an allocation of ₹11,907 crore for the Home Department in the 2026–27 budget, an increase of 16.87% over the previous year, as Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu highlighted a shift towards rehabilitation strategies to tackle Naxalism. The sector now accounts for 3.67% of the state’s expenditure of ₹3,24,234 crore.
Presenting the budget in the Assembly on Friday (March 20), Mr Bhatti said the state’s approach had moved beyond treating Naxalism as just a law and order issue. He criticized both the previous state administration and the current central government for relying heavily on police and armed intervention, instead arguing that socio-economic inequalities were at the root of the insurgency.
