
Two candidates have so far filed their nomination papers in Thiruvananthapuram district for the April 9 assembly elections.
A. Saboora of Socialist Unity Center of India (Communist) (SUCI) filed her papers in Thiruvananthapuram constituency, while K. Prasad of SUCI (Communist) filed her papers in Nemom, the district administration said. March 23 is the last day for filing nomination papers.
The reception will be held on March 24 and March 26 is the deadline for withdrawing nominations. In the meantime, preparations for the elections are at their peak in the district.
District Collector Anu Kumari chaired a meeting of expenditure observers, police, excise and returning officers on Thursday. It has been decided to tighten surveillance along the state border with Tamil Nadu to prevent smuggling of drugs and alcohol into the district. A special team has also been appointed to monitor bank transactions.
