Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur remains optimistic and confident as her team gears up for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 final, despite a taxing schedule. With Mumbai Indians set to play their fourth match in just six days, Kaur believes the relentless schedule has honed their rhythm and sharpened their match awareness.
The WPL 2025 Final, scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, will see a rematch of the 2023 season as Mumbai Indians take on Delhi Capitals. While Delhi Capitals have had a longer break since their last league game on March 7, Kaur sees the back-to-back matches as an advantage for her team, helping them stay in form and refine their strategies.
Harmanpreet Kaur Finds Positives in Mumbai Indians’ Busy Schedule
Kaur emphasized that the constant game time has allowed her team to better understand their approach to different phases of the game, both while batting and bowling. Speaking ahead of the final, she said, “I see it in a positive way. We know what areas to bowl, how to bat, and how to execute ourselves better. We’ve learned which overs to focus on and how to avoid losing wickets. Playing three games in four days was challenging, but we enjoyed them. Tomorrow is a crucial match, and everyone is eagerly looking forward to it.”
Praise for Hayley Matthews’ Stellar Performances
Kaur also lauded West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews for her exceptional contributions in WPL 2025. Matthews has been a standout performer, currently leading the wicket-taking charts with 17 wickets in nine matches at an average of 15.88. She has also been impactful with the bat, scoring 304 runs in nine innings, including three half-centuries and a top score of 77.
Kaur added, “Hayley is always eager to bowl for the team. She starts with a smile and is always ready to take the first over. Her enthusiasm and confidence are incredible, and it shows in her performances.”
Confidence in Mumbai’s Deep Batting Lineup
Kaur highlighted Mumbai Indians’ deep batting lineup as a key strength heading into the final. She believes that having strong hitters down the order allows the team to play with freedom and aggression without the pressure of holding back. With players like Amanjot Kaur stepping up, Kaur feels mentally assured as captain and is confident in her team’s ability to take on the challenge against Delhi Capitals.
She concluded, “Our team has a very long batting lineup, which gives us confidence. I don’t need to wait or rotate strikes unnecessarily; I can play freely and take the big shots when the time is right. This has allowed us to play an aggressive brand of cricket.”
