Hyderabad witnessed a strong show of solidarity from the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies on Wednesday as hundreds gathered at Dharna Chowk and raised slogans of ‘Trans rights are human rights’. The protest saw participants draped in Pride flags and holding placards expressing opposition to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act 2026.
A stage was set up at the venue, decorated with a pride flag and a prominent poster reading “Reject Trans Bill 2026”. The demonstration was organized in response to an amendment bill introduced in the Lok Sabha on 13 March. The proposed changes seek to change the way transgender identity is defined and officially recognized, including provisions that may require individuals to undergo verification procedures, potentially including a medical examination, before being issued with a certificate of identity.
