Delhi weather is wild again! A sudden barrage of sandstorms followed by thunderstorms and torrential rains once again hit the city, bringing some relief from the heat that had begun to build. The sandstorm also affected Gurgaon and Noida. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), more rain is expected in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in the next three days.
Earlier in the day, Delhi woke up to a pleasant morning on Wednesday, March 18, with the minimum temperature settling at 18 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above the season’s normal.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had forecast partly clear skies in the afternoon. The statement also said cloudy skies are likely to become more cloudy overnight. It also predicted the possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong ground winds.
Gusty winds with drizzle occur in Noida.
According to the latest IMD forecast, a shift in Delhi-NCR weather is expected from March 19, when the sky may change to partly cloudy, bringing with it light rain or thundershowers on March 19 and 20.
Daytime temperatures are likely to drop to 29 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, while lows may remain in the 16-17 degree Celsius range.
Earlier on March 15, Delhi and adjoining areas received light rain accompanied by thundershowers during the last 24 hours, bringing relief from the recent heatwave.
Many areas of the capital witnessed drizzle in the morning, with the India Meteorological Department reporting 8 mm of rainfall by 8.30 am.
“Due to the Western Disturbance approaching the Western Himalayas, cyclonic activity has developed over central Pakistan adjoining Punjab and Haryana. As a result, parts of Delhi witnessed rains,” said Mahesh Palawat, Vice President Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet Weather.
