Hansi Flick has revealed that he has no intention of coaching beyond his time at Barcelona. The 61-year-old made that clear on Tuesday ahead of the UEFA Champions League second leg against Newcastle at Camp Nou on Wednesday 18 March.
The tie is 1-1 after last week’s first leg in England. Everything is still up for grabs. But when Flick faced the media, his mind was also on the bigger picture.

“Everyone knows I’m happy here. I love working here. I have a fantastic family and.” great support in Barcelona. Bára will be my last club,” he said.
President of the club Joan Laporta won the presidential election on Sunday, securing another five years at the helm. He has made no secret of his desire to keep Flick beyond his current contract, which expires in 2027. An extension to 2028 is on the table. Flick acknowledged that intention but said it was not yet time to discuss it.
THE FORM IS NOT THE PROBLEM
Whatever happens off the field, it’s going well. Barcelona won all seven home games in 2026. They scored at least three goals in each of those games. They sit at the top of LaLiga, four points ahead of Real Madrid, with Atlético Madrid a further nine points back.
Their last game was a 5-2 win over Sevilla on Sunday. The most outstanding was Raphinha, who scored a hat-trick including two penalties. Dani Olmo and Joao Cancelo also got on the scoresheet. Flick rested Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez with respect to Wednesday. The performance barely reflected their absence.
ONE TITLE IS MISSING
Despite all their domestic success, the Champions League has eluded Barcelona for more than a decade. Their last European title came in the 2014-15 season. It was part of a treble achieved under Luis Enrique, who is now in charge at PSG.
The desire for change is evident. Wednesday’s win sends them to the quarterfinals. In the round of 16, they could face Real Madrid, who knocked out Manchester City a day earlier.
For Flick, a man who said this marks the end of his coaching career, the stakes couldn’t be more personal.
– The end
