At least three people were killed after two trucks collided head-on and caught fire on the national highway near Boyapalem village under Prathipadu police station limits in Guntur district on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), according to preliminary police reports.

Guntur District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal said that a lorry traveling from Chilakaluripet towards Guntur crossed the central barrier for reasons yet to be ascertained and rammed into another lorry coming from the opposite direction towards Chilakaluripet. The impact sparked a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles within minutes.

One of the trucks was carrying stones, the other was carrying a paper consignment, the SP said.

Vakul Jindal said rescue teams and police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information. However, due to the intensity of the fire, authorities were still extricating bodies from the burned vehicles.

“Initial reports indicate that three people have died. However, we are still recovering the bodies and the exact death toll will be confirmed only after the rescue operation is completed,” the SP said.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident to find out the circumstances that led the truck to run over the partition. Firefighters and the rescue service extinguished the fire, traffic on the highway was regulated during the rescue and clearing work. More details are awaited as the recovery operation continues.
