South Western Railway is holding its promotion exams on Tuesday for 295 posts, including 194 posts for Freight Train Manager (60% promotion quota) and Limited Professional Competitive Examination (LDCE) (15% promotion quota) in Hubballi division.
After protests in early 2008, the Railway Examination Board started conducting examinations in local languages as well, including Kannada. “But the board has gone back to its old ways and is conducting these exams only in Hindi and English. We will not allow this exam to be held at any cost,” said TA Narayana Gowda, president of KRV.
He said the KRV would stage a protest outside the railway division office near Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station in Bengaluru on Tuesday. He further said that the Cottonpet Police had served them a notice warning them not to hold the protest, but added that the protest would continue as planned.
“We are ready to go to jail to protect the interests of Kannadigas. We will celebrate Ugadi in jail this year,” he said.
Mr. Gowda also demanded the resignation of Union Ministers V. Somann, who is Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways, HD Kumaraswamy and Pralhad Joshi for not protecting the interests of the state.
