The city police have arrested 188 habitual offenders in a special operation aimed at strengthening law and order in the state capital ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Preventive detention was carried out as part of a special action called “Operation Dark Hunt”, which targeted people mentioned in noisy historical records.
Based on intelligence and station-level records, police teams across the city rounded up the suspects and placed them in preventive custody to prevent potential riots.
According to police, the move was part of increased security measures being implemented in the run-up to council elections scheduled for next month. The aim of the district authorities is to prevent criminal activity, ensure public safety and maintain order in the city during the election period.
Police said similar enforcement measures would continue in the coming days as part of a wider strategy to tighten surveillance on known offenders.
