
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will unveil a statue of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramula in Amaravati on Monday as part of the freedom fighter’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations.
According to officials, the Chief Minister will unveil the 58-feet bronze statue of Potti Sriramula at Shakhamuru Park in Amaravati at 11.15 am. The statue was installed as part of a memorial project being developed on 6.80 acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore.
The first phase of the project was completed, the Potti Sriramulu Memorial Trust completed the construction of the statue in a record time of six months. About 26 tons of bronze and 42 tons of iron were used to build the statue.
In the second phase, the authorities plan to build a museum, photo gallery, auditorium and a skill development center in the memorial premises.
The memorial is being developed to commemorate the sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu, who undertook a 58-day fast unto death demanding a separate state for the Telugu people, which eventually led to the creation of Andhra State.
Later in the evening, the Chief Minister will travel to Vijayawada and attend an Iftar dinner organized by the state government at 5.40 pm to mark the holy month of Ramzan. He will greet members of the Muslim community during the event.
