Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he dreams of breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket. Back in 2013, Gayle blasted 175 off 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the now defunct Pune Warriors at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru – a record that still stands.
Since then, the likes of Aaron Finch, Sahibzada Farhan and Dewald Brevis have come close, but none have managed to surpass Gayle’s milestone. During the Naman Awards on Sunday, renowned host Harsha Bhogle asked Sooryavanshi which of the three records – fastest IPL hundred, six sixes in an over or highest individual T20 score – he would most like to break.

Bhogle asked, “I’ll tell you three things and ask you three questions. Tell me which one you want the most. Six sixes in an over. Chris Gayle was a left-hander like you and scored 175 in the IPL. Or the fastest IPL hundred.”
In reply, Sooryavanshi said, “Sir, I want to break the record of 175 runs.”
SOORYAVANSHI CONTINUES TO RAISE THE BAR
Sooryavanshi already holds the record for fastest century by an Indian in IPL history and second fastest overall, behind Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball hundred against Pune in 2013.
On 28 April 2025, the left-hander blasted a 35-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In the process, he became the youngest centurion in T20 cricket and led the Royals to an eight-wicket win as they piled up 210 in just 15.5 overs.
Earlier that season, Sooryavanshi grabbed headlines when he became the youngest debutant in IPL history at 14 years and 23 days during Royals’ clash against Lucknow Super Giants.
The Royals snapped up the teenage sensation for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction and he announced himself in style by blasting Shardul Thakur for a huge six to get him off the mark.
In seven matches in IPL 2025, Sooryavanshi scored 252 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55, including a top score of 101.
