Ahead of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) announcement of the assembly poll schedule, the Congress on Sunday (March 15, 2026) rocked the poll body, labeling the Model Code of Conduct or MCC as “Modi’s campaign code”, which the party said would be “full of defamation, viral abuse, viral spreading, intimidation, intimidation, intimidation”.
Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, took to social media platform X. “The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections today at 4:00 pm. G2 would give its approval as G1 would complete this round of inauguration, ribbon cutting, signing off and commissioning of The Model Code of Conduct,” said El. (MCC) will come into effect soon, but from 2014 it means Modi’s campaign code will be full of slander, abuse, intimidation, fear-mongering and spreading the virus of lies,” Mr. Ramesh said.
Congress often uses the term “G2” to refer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, both from Gujarat.
The MCC is a set of conventions agreed upon by all parties involved during the election. It aims to maintain orderly, clean and peaceful campaigning, polling and counting and to check any misuse of state machinery and finances by the party in power.
