Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State Secretary G. Ramanna on Sunday demanded the immediate cancellation of the parliamentary membership of Putta MP Mahesh Kumar Yadav from Eluru.
Members of the federation burnt an effigy symbolizing the “drug demon” at Vuyyuru center in Krishna district as part of the protest. The protest was led by DYFI district convener Lakshmi Narayana.
Mr. Ramanna said it was shameful that an MP who was expected to be accountable to the public was directly caught in a drug case and demanded that his membership in Parliament be revoked immediately and that he be severely punished. He also urged the TDP to expel him from the party to prove his integrity.
He also called on all political parties to suspend leaders who had links with the drug and ganja mafia. Mr. Ramanna alleged that many murders and incidents of violence against women in the state were linked to ganja and drug abuse and expressed concern that people no longer felt safe.
The DYFI leader also slammed the government for “not supporting the family of youth leader Penchalaiah of Nellore who allegedly lost his life while fighting the ganja mafia”. He called the government’s inaction shameful and demanded protection for those who raise their voice against the drug mafia. He alleged that drug and ganja mafias were operating in the state with the active support of politicians and said this particular incident proved it.
DYFI leaders Somasekhar, Durga, Konda, Rajesh and others participated in the protest.
