Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said on Sunday that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is considering offering at least 20% chairperson posts in various corporations and government agencies to women in the next phase of appointments.
He exuded confidence that 51 women would enter the Telangana Legislative Assembly in the next general elections in view of efforts to introduce 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
Senior Congress leader and former mayor of Warangal Errabelli Swarna formally took charge as president of Telangana Mahila Congress at a ceremony held at Gandhi Bhavan’s Prakasham Hall. All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba and several women leaders participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that several Congress women activists have already been appointed as directors in various bodies, while six leaders have been offered the posts of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents.
He also highlighted various initiatives being implemented by the Congress government in the state, including the Maha Lakshmi scheme, which provides free bus travel to women.
He congratulated Ms. Errabelli Swarn for taking charge and urged the Mahila Congress workers to take the party programs to the doorstep of every household under her leadership.
On the other hand, the TPCC boss took aim at the BRS and its working president, accusing the previous government of allowing the drug culture to flourish during its 10-year rule. “The Congress government led by Revanth Reddy is taking strict measures to curb the drug menace,” he said. Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya and other leaders were present.
