Tamil poet, writer and public speaker Nandalala’s literary and social contributions were fondly remembered during the premiere of Paayum Oli Nee Enakku (You are My Beaming Light), a biographical documentary, which was released in Tiruchi on Saturday.
Organized by Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association and cultural organizations Vaanam and Kalam, the edition was inaugurated by Minister for Local Administration KN Nehru. Mayor M. Anbazhagan received the first copy of the film.
Neduncheliyan Singaravelu, widely known by his pen name “Nandalala”, was born in Kunnandarkoil in Pudukkottai. A retired bank employee, Nandalala was deeply involved in the literary and cultural circles of Tiruchi.
Directed by Mark Rathinaraj, the 40-minute documentary features interviews with 14 friends and supporters of Nandalala and was made over a period of seven months, the late writer’s daughter Bharathi told The Hindu.
“A few years ago we planned to make a video series on his book Tiruchirappalli: Oorum Varalarum, but somehow the project stalled after a few episodes. This time we decided that Appa’s legacy must be remembered and properly preserved for future generations,” said Ms. Bharathi.
The document will be available online.
Poets Madhukkur Ramalingam, Muthunilavan and writer Adhavan Dheetchanya spoke.
