Telangana BJP activists, led by state president N. Ramchander Rao, burnt an effigy of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi outside the party’s state office here on Saturday, protesting his alleged “reprehensible behaviour” in Parliament.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Mr. Ramchander Rao said that despite clear rules prohibiting gatherings at the entrance of the Parliament building, Congress leaders treated the Parliament steps as a “picnic place” where they sat and drank tea with complete disregard for the rules.
Mr. Rao alleged that the Congress MPs’ actions amounted to insulting the temple of democracy. He emphasized that the parliament is a sacred institution designed to discuss public affairs. He criticized the leaders for making jokes and sitting cross-legged, calling it a direct insult to the democratic system.
“They lack the courage to debate inside the House and the patience to follow the rules outside. For Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Parliament has become a picnic ground,” Mr. Rao observed.
He further accused the Congress of spreading misinformation about the shortage of LPG. He pointed out that even after the Union Minister gave a detailed explanation with details of sufficient stock of petrol, diesel and gas, the Congress officials refused to acknowledge it. Instead, they joined suspended MPs to eat biscuits and drink tea on the premises, breaking parliamentary protocol.
