Congress district panchayat member Sreenadevi Kunjamma is caught in a fresh controversy following a complaint alleging that she added her name to another person’s ration card using fake documents. The Adoor police have now sought a report from the ration inspector to proceed.
The complaint filed by Communist Party of India (CPI) president T. Murugesh also alleged that her name was added in the ration card as “daughter of the sister of the cardholder’s husband” even though the cardholder’s husband had no sister. It also raised questions about her inclusion in the electoral roll as Ms Kunjamma originally had a permanent address in Pat Kolhanamtta and Hail.
Ms. Kunjamma denied the allegations and called them a CPI conspiracy. “This is an attempt to settle scores because I joined the Congress and defeated the CPI,” she said. She added that she has been living in Pathanamthitta since her school days and the complainants are her relatives. She also warned of legal action against the taluk supply officer who canceled her ration card.
A former CPI leader, Ms. Kunjamma had earlier served as a district panchayat member from Pallikkal division representing the party. After falling out with the party leadership just before the local body elections, she resigned, joined the Congress and regained the Pallikkal seat as a UDF candidate.
