Gurramguda area will soon have a third urban forest park on a large plot of land thanks to recently settled court cases.
The Telangana government has declared the Gurramguda forest area in Amangal division as a reserve forest, ending years of legal wrangling over the land. The land in Sahebnagar Kalan village has been in dispute for several years. The matter, widely referred to as the Sahebnagar Kalan case, was heard in many courts for a long time before the Supreme Court of India finally upheld the Forest Department’s claim.
According to a statement issued by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests C. Suvarna, the government through the Ministry of Environment, Forests, Science and Technology issued orders declaring 424 acres and 31 guntas of forest land in Gurramguda as reserve forest under Section 15 of the Telangana Forest Act, 1967.
With the announcement, the legal process related to the land was completed and the forest area now enjoys official Reserve Forest status, which provides stronger legal protection. The state government has also decided to develop the area into a large urban forest park, the statement said.
