Pakistan selector Aaqib Javed sparked a debate with an unusual comparison when he called Jasprit Bumrah the “Usman Tariq of fast bowlers” after India’s T20 World Cup triumph. Bumrah was one of the standout players in the tournament, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets alongside Varun Chakravarthy.
Javed claimed that Bumrah’s clumsy action, pace and ability to disrupt the batter’s rhythm making him a rare force in modern cricketwhich draws parallels to the uniqueness of Usman Tariq’s action, especially his distinct pause before delivery. Tariq has also impressed recently, taking 10 wickets in six matches at the T20 World Cup.

“Nowadays, in this whole World Cup, there is only one such bowler – Bumrah. Because he is different. He is not a normal bowler. Even his behavior is unusual. When it comes to bowling, I always say he is like the Usman Tariq of fast bowlers,” Javed told reporters.
“He gets angry so quickly and in such a unique way that a batsman can never find any flow or rhythm against him. He just won’t allow it.”
Javed further said that no other bowler in the World Cup has evoked the qualities of legendary pacers like Wasim Akram and insisted that such bounces are no longer seen in the modern game.
“Besides him, tell me one other bowler in this entire World Cup – from any team – who you can look at and feel satisfied that he carries the reflection of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis or anyone like that. You won’t find any more,” Javed added.
HOW DID BUMRAH FAR IN T20 WC 2026?
Bumrah once again proved why he is India’s best bowler in big matches during the T20 World Cupdelivers a campaign defined by control, timely breakthroughs, and record-setting spells.
His best performance came in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad where he ripped through the chase with a stunning spell of 4-0-15-4 and was named man of the match as India sealed a crushing 96-run win to retain the title.
Remarkably, Bumrah did not concede a single boundary in this spell, which only highlighted how stifling he was on the biggest stage. The final also brought important milestones. His figures were the best by a fast bowler in the Men’s T20 World Cup final and the second best overall in the title race.
The four-wicket haul also took Bumrah to 40 career World T20 wickets, moving him ahead of Lasith Malinga and Anrich Nortje, who both have 38 wickets apiece, to become the leading wicket-taker for fast bowling in the tournament’s history.
