For flights to and from Southeast Asia, China, Africa and West Asia, ₹ an additional 1800 will be charged; and ₹ A fuel charge of 2300 will be charged for flights to and from European countries.
Why has IndiGo increased its ticket prices?
IndiGo’s decision to levy fuel charges comes amid a spike in jet fuel prices due to the ongoing war between the US, Israel and Iran.
Announcing the introduction of the fuel charge, the airline said: “This measure has been taken due to the significant increase in fuel prices following the ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East. IATA’s Jet Fuel Monitor shows an 85+% increase in fuel prices in the region.”
The airline said that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) represents a significant share of airlines’ operating costs. “This sudden and steep increase will have a material impact on the cost and network of all airlines, including IndiGo,” he added.
In a statement, IndiGo said it “regrets the inconvenience caused by this additional charge and reiterates that this action is due to a sudden and substantial change in the operational environment”.
“IndiGo will continue to monitor the situation and make appropriate adjustments as necessary. IndiGo remains committed to giving wings to the nation by offering customers affordable, comfortable and consistent travel,” the airline added.
