Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj and his supporters staged a protest in Mysuru on Friday (March 13), highlighting the hardships people, hotels and restaurants are facing due to shortage of LPG amid fears of an ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.
Known for his unconventional forms of protest, Mr. Nagaraj sat on an LPG cylinder and used firewood to boil water as a symbolic demonstration against the shortage of cooking gas and demanded immediate measures to alleviate the crisis.
Later, speaking to reporters, he warned that if the war continued, the people of India could also face serious hardship. He said the conflict could eventually affect food availability around the world, describing it as a “war on food”.
Mr. Nagaraj said that if the situation does not improve, there are plans to call a Karnataka bandh soon over the LPG issue.
He demanded an immediate stop to the war saying that people are already facing problems due to lack of LPG. While some households have started using firewood for cooking, he said it is not sufficient or sustainable and could lead to deforestation.
“LPG is the main source of cooking fuel for people. This war is against humanity and it must stop,” he said.
