Dubai Abu Dhabi news LIVE update: Missile alerts were sent to mobile phones in Dubai on Friday morning as authorities said air defenses were intercepting incoming Iranian strikes, according to an Associated Press report.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said its air defenses shot down 10 more drones targeting the kingdom’s eastern and central provinces, bringing the total to nearly 50 drones entering Saudi airspace within hours.
The wave represents an unusually high number of aerial threats as sites including the US embassy in Riyadh, oil infrastructure and a military base housing US troops have been targeted in the escalating conflict involving Iran.
Thick black smoke could be seen over the Dubai skyline early Friday after what authorities described as a fire in an industrial area. An Associated Press reporter observed the fire in the Al Quoz neighborhood, where bystanders had gathered. The police prevented the journalist from accessing the place, which is located in a dead end.
The Dubai Media Authority clarified that the fire was caused by debris from the successful interception of the missile, which resulted in a minor incident on the facade of a building in downtown Dubai. No injuries were reported, although smoke could be seen across the horizon and extended as far as the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel.
