Indian doubles ace Yuki Bhambri and his Swedish partner Andre Goransson achieved a historic milestone by advancing to the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Masters 2026. The unseeded duo continued their clinical run at Tennis Paradise by defeating the Austro-Italian pair of Alexander Erler and Andrea Vavassori in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(7).
The victory marks a major personal breakthrough for Bhambri as it marks his first semi-final appearance at an ATP Masters 1000 event. It also ends a two-year drought for the Indian team in the final four of the Masters tournament, which followed Rohan Bopanna’s victory in Miami in 2024.

Bhambri and Goransson have been a force to be reckoned with since the start of the tournament. They started their campaign with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win over David Pele and Fabrico Martin. In the pre-quarterfinals, they showed exceptional composure and dispatched Sander Arends and Jiří Lehečka 6-4, 6-4, in a match in which they did not encounter a single break point.
Their quarter-final clash against Erler and Vavassori was a grueling affair. The Indian-Swedish pair found themselves in a tense second set tiebreak after taking the first set comfortably. They showed the chemistry that has defined their 2026 season, saving set points to seal the match in one hour and 40 minutes.
The partnership between Bhambri and Goransson has flourished since the start of the year. Seeded 10th at the Australian Open in January, they reached the second round after a near-flawless opening performance against local wild cards James Duckworth and Cruz Hewitt. Bhambri, currently the top-ranked doubles player in Asia at world No. 23, found a reliable rhythm with Goransson, combining his groundwork with the Swede’s sharp net game.
This run in California continues the momentum Bhambri built during a career-defining 2025 season. Last year, Bhambri reached the semifinals of the US Open alongside New Zealand’s Michael Venus – marking his first ever Grand Slam final four appearance. Although they narrowly lost a three-set marathon to Britain’s Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, the performance moved Bhambri into the elite group of doubles specialists.
Now, with the support of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) and a place in the semifinals of Indian Wells, Bhambri and Goransson are firmly established as one of the most dangerous unseeded pairs on the ATP tour. They will be looking to carry that form into the final weekend as they chase their first Masters 1000 final.
