Union Home Minister Govind Mohan on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) asked states to ensure protection of the LPG supply chain by enhancing the security of the affected infrastructure and personnel.
Chief secretaries and directors general of police (DGPs) of all states have been asked to counter “false rumors of LPG shortage” and further advised to keep a close eye on social media platforms and take immediate action to remove fake news that spread rumors or create fake stories by spreading old or unrelated material, a government source said.

Secretaries of the Ministries of Petroleum and Gas, Information and Broadcasting and Consumer Affairs were also present.
States have been advised to monitor local LPG supply on a daily basis, take strict action against violators and maintain law and order in place. States and Union Territories should undertake sufficient awareness drives – both directly and through oil marketing companies – to allay fears and counter false rumors of LPG shortage as the government is taking proactive measures to ensure adequate availability of LPG to households, the source said.
The meeting was held in view of various reports regarding “public concerns over limited LPG supply in the domestic market due to developments in West Asia”.
All states have been informed that the LPG Control Ordinance dated March 8, 2026 directs refineries and petrochemical complexes to maximize LPG production and prioritize domestic supply of LPG for household consumers. It has been clarified that restrictions have been imposed on the distribution of LPG to commercial establishments, including hotels and restaurants, but not to hospitals or educational institutions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) operates a 24×7 control center comprising nodal officers from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Petroleum and Natural Gas. This measure has been taken to enable verification of facts and issue of immediate clarifications to states and UTs on any matter related to the current situation, the source said.
