Transport and Backward Class Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reiterated that the state government is determined to find a permanent solution to the decades-old problem of the dumping ground in Karimnagar.
The minister, along with civic officials and others, inspected the dumping site near the Karimnagar bypass on Wednesday. Residents of nearby residential colonies have long been demanding the dumping site to be shifted, raising serious health and environmental concerns.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that he had inspected the dumping ground on the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to outline a plan to find a permanent solution to the pollution problems in the residential colonies located near the dumping ground. He noted that the Chief Minister has already assured to ensure shifting of the landfill to a remote location somewhere between Karimnagar and Warangal. According to him, the government will start the process of shifting the landfill scientifically and ensure the completion of the entire process within a year.
Waste management initiatives under the Smart City project had not taken off on the required lines in the past, he said, apparently taking a swipe at the previous BRS-run Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.
