A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its list of candidates for the Legislative Council elections, including the West Graduates constituency, upset that it was not considered for the party ticket, BJP State Disciplinary Commission President Lingaraj Patil on Wednesday announced his resignation from the post.
The BJP has announced the party ticket for the incumbent MLC from the West Graduates Constituencies SV Sankanur constituency, defying expectations in the BJP circle of a candidate change. The other two BJP candidates are Shashil G. Namoshi for the North East Teacher Constituency and KM Suresh for the South East Graduate Constituency.
Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Wednesday, Mr. Lingaraj Patil announced that he would resign from his post, extremely hurt by the party’s decision to field Mr. Sankanur again. “The party has decided to rebuild it despite objections raised by several party members,” he said.
He said he was associated with the BJP for the last 37 years and served the party with sincerity and discipline but was treated unfairly. He said he had tendered his resignation and would wait another eight days to see if the party would reconsider its decision.
