US President Donald Trump criticized Republican Thomas Massie on Wednesday (local time), calling him “the worst Republican congressman”.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump attacked Massie, writing: “I predict that ‘Rep’ Thomas Massie will become the WORST Republican congressman in the long and storied history of the United States Congress, worse than Crazy Liz Cheney, Cryin’ Adam Kinzinger and Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown and Brown (remember, all stressed out Greenie). who is running against a great American patriot in the Kentucky primary, hopefully he will lose BIG.”
Trump criticizes Massie, supports Gallrein
Trump’s remarks about Massie, who is an outspoken critic of the US president, came ahead of his visit to Kentucky, where he endorsed Capt. Ed Gallrein, who plans to oust Massie in mid-November, The Hill reported.
This isn’t the first time Trump has attacked Massie. Earlier Tuesday, Trump said in another post that Kentucky voters were desperate to get rid of Massie, “the worst ‘Republican’ congressman we’ve had in years.”
According to the US president, the only person who can defeat Massie is Gallrein, who is a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, fifth-generation Kentucky farmer and “an American hero”. Trump went on to claim that Gallrein is a “true patriot,” adding that the GOP challenger is “a big fan of our recent attack on Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan dictator.”
Trump vs. Massie
Reports suggest that Trump and Massie have previously engaged in a war of words over various issues, including Trump’s decision to launch strikes against Iran and the release of Department of Justice (DOJ) documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The Kentucky Republican has been vocal in his criticism of the president for rising gas prices amid a war in the Middle East. In a post on X, he wrote: “Gas price up $0.47 and diesel up $0.83 in 10 days due to war with Iran.”
Massie was among the lawmakers who supported the war powers resolution to limit Trump’s authority. Although Democrats mostly supported the proposal, it failed after most Republicans sided with the president.
Massie called for the resignation of the trade minister
In early January, the Justice Department released millions of documents related to the Epstein files, which included the names of several high-profile figures, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Massie, who was the lead Republican on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which forced the release of records related to the notorious sex offender, CNN reported.
Massie also called for Lutnick’s resignation, saying he “clearly went to the island if we believe what’s in these files.” He added that Lutnick did business with Epstein years after Epstein had already been convicted.
