Congress MP from Bhongir Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday took down fellow Andhra Pradesh MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayulu’s remarks on the formation of Telangana state.
Speaking in response to comments made during the debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha chaired by Speaker Om Birla, MP Bhongir took issue with Devarayalu’s criticism of the process by which the Telangana statehood bill was passed in Parliament.
The TDP leader reportedly described February 14, 2014 as a “black day” and claimed that the Telangana Bill was passed after the doors of the Lok Sabha were closed. The TDP MP criticized the then Speaker Meira Kumar for clarifying the legislation.
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy argued that the Telangana Statehood Bill was constitutionally passed in the Lok Sabha. He questioned whether Devarayalu was unaware that TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had extended written support for the creation of Telangana at that time.
