Despite the ban on the sale of lotteries in Karnataka, the police are dealing with the illegal sale of Kerala state lotteries in the border regions of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.
Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, Mallikarjun Baladandi, said the police – who have booked a total of 14 cases this year in areas of Mysuru district bordering Kerala – found that the accused were buying lottery tickets wholesale in Kerala.
Lottery tickets were transported across state borders by buses plying between the two states, he said, adding that the two accused persons were repeatedly involved.
Meanwhile, a statement by the Chamarajanagar district police said that on March 9, they registered two cases against persons illegally selling Kerala state lottery tickets in Yelandur town of the district.
Acting on a complaint, the Yelandur police raided a place near Nadamegalamma temple in the city and arrested Madanayaka (68), a mat trader, and seized 72 Kerala state lottery tickets worth ₹3,600.
Following another complaint that Kerala state lottery tickets were being sold at a public place near Yelandur bus stand, the police raided the place and arrested 30-year-old Siddharth and seized 12 tickets worth ₹1,200.
