Fadnavis also shared the moment on X and posted, “Had the pleasure of welcoming Indian T20 captain, FIFA World Cup 2026 winner Suryakumar Yadav and Batting Genius Shivam Dube at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. It’s a proud moment for all of us as they continue to inspire millions across the country.”
Dominant final
India beat New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a one-sided contest that left fans across the country celebrating late into the night.
Both Suryakumar and Dube were key contributors throughout the tournament. Their performances with the bat and in the field were a big reason why India went home with the trophy.
Dube’s Train Journey Home
After the final, both players separated back to Mumbai. Suryakumar returned by flight while Dube had a busier ride home.
“There was no flight available, so I decided to take a train from Ahmedabad early in the morning to Mumbai. We could have gone by road, but the train was faster,” Dube told The Indian Express.
He was traveling with his wife and a close friend. “Me, my wife and a friend decided to take the train. 3rd AC tickets were available so we decided to book them,” he said.
The trip was not without worries. “Everyone we spoke to was worried, family and friends. What if someone recognized me at the station or on the train?” Dube said.
His desire to go back was understandable. At home in Mumbai, four-year-old son Aayan and two-year-old daughter Mehwish were waiting for Dube.
The meeting with CM Fadnavis was a warm ending to an unforgettable few days for the players and the entire country.
