The ongoing crisis in West Asia, which has interrupted the supply of commercial LPG cylinders, will not affect the mid-day meal program in government and aided schools for now, sources in the education ministry said.
The state government supplies domestic LPG cylinders to schools and anganwadi centers for mid-day meal programme. Additionally, schools and anganwadi centers will be closed from April 10 and will not open until May-June later this year. “The gas supply is manageable till April 10. It will not be a problem to provide mid-day meals to schools and Anganwadi centres,” said Varalakshmi, Center of Indian Trade Unions.
Meanwhile, several non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including ISKCON and Adamya Chetana, which supply mid-day meals to thousands of government and aided school children across the state, have been using briquettes instead of commercial gas to prepare food for many years. Therefore, their operation is not affected either.
