Telangana consumed the highest ever energy consumption in a day on Monday (March 9) when 335.89 million units were recorded, surpassing the previous high of 335.19 MU used on March 18 last year.
According to Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka, Telangana stands side by side with major industrial states like Karnataka (359 MU), Madhya Pradesh (358 MU) and Rajasthan (388.8 MU) in terms of energy consumption despite having a much smaller geographical area, population and industrial density.
The all-time highest power consumption per day in combined Andhra Pradesh was 274.8 MU. Telangana boasts of one of the reliable power supply states in the country with uninterrupted (24×7) supply to all categories of consumers when several larger states have struggled to manage the power demand position.
The Deputy Chief Minister attributed the increase in energy consumption to Telangana’s growth in the IT, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, irrigation and agriculture sectors. Telangana is said to be future-ready to meet power demand of up to 350 MU per day with its strengths of robust grid maintenance, proactive planning and active coordination among utilities.
He praised the power companies for achieving another milestone of providing the highest demand for power.
Meanwhile, according to Southern Regional Load Dispatch Center of Grid-India (Grid Controller of India Ltd, formerly known as Power System Operation Corporation Ltd) statistics, the highest daily power consumption in Telangana was recorded on March 18 last year at 339.17 MU and 336.27 MW a day later (March 19).
Last year, according to Telangana State Load Dispatch Center statistics, consumption of 335.19 MU was recorded on March 18 and on March 19 it was 332.68 MU.
