Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu
The Polavaram irrigation project is the “modern temple of Andhra Pradesh” and the state government is preparing plans to complete the project before the start of the Godavari Pushkarams, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said.
Mr. Ramanaidu visited the Polavaram project site on Tuesday, inspected the ongoing work and reviewed the progress with engineering experts and officials of the Irrigation Department.
He later told the media that the completion of the project will ensure that Godavari waters reach Rayalaseema as well as North Andhra region. He said the government is committed to complete Polavaram and other irrigation projects in North Andhra and Rayalaseema and has prepared an action plan for the same.
Mr. Ramanaidu said that the NDA government, both in the past and now, has prioritized irrigation and has not compromised on the quality of works. He alleged that the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project was damaged during the tenure of the previous government. Instead of repairing the damaged structure, the current government decided to build a new membrane wall to ensure the quality and long-term stability of the project.
