The district administration has issued a health advisory urging people to remain vigilant and follow precautionary measures following the detection of the H5N1 bird flu virus in samples collected from a dead crow.
In a press release, Collector MS Prasanth said bird flu is a viral disease that primarily spreads among birds. The infection is generally identified through laboratory tests performed on dead birds, as it spreads from infected birds to others, resulting in mortality. The disease can spread to humans through direct contact with infected birds or under unsanitary conditions.
Individuals who develop symptoms of influenza-like illness (ILI), such as cough, runny nose, fever, and difficulty breathing, are advised to seek immediate medical attention. If they develop flu-like symptoms, they should contact the nearest state primary health center and state hospital.
Any unusual death of birds must be reported immediately to the Animal Husbandry Department, the collector said.
