Retiring senior IPS officer honors late colleague with cycle ride

Andhra Pradesh Road Safety Authority Chairman and IPS chief M. Pratap celebrated the last day of his 35-year career before retirement with an emotional tribute to his late IPS colleague, Umesh Chandra.

Cycling from the DGP headquarters in Mangalagiri to the statue of Mr. Umesh Chandra in Tenali, Mr. Pratap on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) donated the police uniform he had worn throughout his service in honor of the fallen officer who was killed while fighting terrorism and organized crime.

Several police officers took part in the memorial ride. Earlier, Mr. Pratap visited his former teachers to seek their blessings. He rose from a humble farming family to become the state’s top police officer, serving in several key positions and gaining recognition for his integrity, discipline and dedication to public service.
