
Chidambaram city police have arrested six persons, including five juveniles, on charges of assaulting a man while he was returning from special Ramzan prayers.
Police said Jamal Mohammed (36) of Kollimettu Street in Chidambaram was returning home after attending special Ramzan prayers on Friday evening. As he approached his house, 19-year-old J. Aravind of Omakulam and five juvenile passengers on two motorcycles ambushed Jamal and assaulted him.
Jamal’s brother Asandeen raised the alarm after which the gang fled the scene. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
The Chidambaram city police reviewed the CCTV footage of the locality and arrested Aravind on Sunday, while the juveniles were lodged in a government observation home.
According to the police, the six were under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered.
