Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said it took his government 20 months to “right the wrongs of the previous government” and bring the state back on the path of development.
He said that the state would continue the development trajectory only if the government was given the opportunity to continue in successive terms as in the case of Gujarat.
Mr. Naidu attended a grama sabha on Monday and interacted with farmers of Kothaburju in Dhone Assembly constituency. He distributed the newly printed Pattadar passbooks to the farmers.
Mr Naidu criticized the previous government for its “complete mismanagement of the revenue system, threatening and usurping people’s lands and betting on private land by bringing in the Land Tenure Act”.
“As the Leader of the Opposition, I burnt copies of the Land Titling Act in Panyam Assembly constituency and promised to repeal the Act if voted to power. I kept my promise by repealing the Act,” he said.
The new Pattadar passbooks are tamper-proof and will be given free to farmers, the chief minister said, adding that the government would resolve all land-related issues by the end of 2027.
Mr. Naidu alleged that the previous government had ruined the state, resorted to widespread corruption and adulterated the ghee meant for making Tirumala laddu prasadam. “While we are making all efforts to bring the state back on the path of development, the YSRCP is trying to create hurdles. But we will go ahead and turn around the Rayalaseema Ratanal Seema area,” he said.
Referring to the Tirumala laddu controversy, Mr. Naidu said that the YSRCP was trying to politicize the issue even though the CBI report had clearly shown that the ghee was adulterated. “I will not tolerate any sacrilege against Lord Venkateswara,” he said.
Mr. Naidu listed the development activities being carried out in the region and the upcoming investments in Kurnool, Anantapur and other parts of the region. “I urge people not to play Vaikuntapali (snakes and ladders game). When I am in power, I take the development trajectory to a high level, but by choosing others, you bring it down again. If the state is to develop like Gujarat, there should be a stable government for the next term,” he said.
During the grama sabha, the farmer alleged that former MLA Buggana Rajendranath had usurped his land. Mr. Naidu asked the district administration to look into the issue.
Earlier, Dhone MLA Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy urged the Chief Minister to merge Dhone with Kurnool district.
