Sanju Samson’s wife Charulatha Remesh was in awe of India after his heroics in the FIFA World Cup T20 2026. Samson played a knock of 89 in the final against New Zealand to help India to a 96-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Samson also won the Player of the Tournament award for scoring 321 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37, including three half-centuries. After India’s win, Charulatha posted a photo with Samson posing with the T20 World Cup trophy.
Samson’s wife wrote: “My trophy holds his. Too grateful.”
SAMSON RISE TO THE OCCASION
Over the course of the tournament, Samson silenced the critics and showed his class by producing match-winning innings when it mattered most. He excelled at the Super8 stage, scoring an unbeaten 97 off just 50 balls against the West Indies and followed it up with a stunning 89 in the semi-final against England and the final against New Zealand. He top-scored for India in the title clash in Ahmedabad, helping the team to a record 255.
Samson also broke several records during the T20 World Cupcementing his place among the tournament’s elite performers. He became the highest run-scorer by an Indian in a single edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, surpassing Virat Kohli’s 319 runs in 2014. Additionally, Samson hit 24 sixes in the tournament, setting a new record for most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
Additionally, Samson became only the third batsman in history to score a half-century in both the semi-final and final of the T20 World Cup, joining Virat Kohli (2014) and Shahid Afridi (2009). His innings of 89 in the final against New Zealand also set the record for the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final, surpassing Marlon Samuels’ 85 against England in 2016.
