In a major academic milestone on International Women’s Day, 57 students, mostly girls, from a remote tribal government college in Chintapalli appeared for the National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) examination on Quantum Computing in Visakhapatnam. Many of these students come from extremely remote backgrounds and could not afford to pay the ₹500 exam fee. In a remarkable gesture of encouragement, the school principal paid the fee from university funds so that these talented students would not miss this opportunity.
Realizing that students are currently writing their semester exams, APSCHE Chairman K. Madhu Murthy coordinated with NPTEL and AP Online to arrange a special exam slot on Sunday. “On this momentous day, we celebrate not only the achievements of women but also the arrival of future women scientists and technologists from tribal communities,” said Professor Murthy, adding that it was indeed a celebration of Quantum Women’s Day.
