One of the largest gathering of ex-servicemen in the North East region, held on Sunday (March 8, 2026) in Assam’s Sonitpur district, focused on helping veterans transition to civilian careers.
Eight government departments and agencies, along with four private sector groups, provided information on job opportunities and dealership prospects to about 4,000 ex-servicemen, war widows and their dependents from Biswanath and Sonitpur districts in north Assam.

Organized by the Gajraj Corps at a school in Ghoramari’s Sonitpur district, the event was one of the largest gatherings of ex-servicemen in the region. The participants included veterans who had served in the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles.
“During the assembly, dedicated employment and resettlement cells were set up to provide access to around 400 vacancies across sectors such as security services, administration, logistics and technical roles and help veterans transition smoothly into civilian careers,” Defense Spokesperson Lt Col Athul Sreedharan said in a statement.
