Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw shared a major personal milestone with fans on Sunday, March 8 when he announced his engagement to girlfriend Akriti Agarwal. The cricketer took to social media to share a series of romantic pictures that capture the moment of the proposal and the couple celebrating their new chapter together.
One of the photos shows Shaw down on one knee as he places the engagement ring on Akriti’s finger. Another picture shows him returning the gesture by helping him wear the ring, followed by pictures of the couple proudly showing off their engagement rings.
The announcement quickly gained traction online with fans and members of the cricketing fraternity sending congratulatory messages. Shaw’s IPL team Delhi Capitals, who will represent in IPL 2026, also joined the couple’s wish.
Shaw shared the photos on Instagram, writing: “From sixes on the field to a lifetime off. She’s my perfect shift!🏆❤️ #justengaged”
Who is Akriti Agarwal?
Akriti Agarwal is a social media influencer and actress hailing from Lucknow. She later moved to Mumbai where she built a strong digital presence and now has over 3 million followers on Instagram. She also ventured into acting and made her debut in the movie Trimukha.
The couple was recently spotted together at the star-studded wedding of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok in Mumbai, an event attended by several personalities from the world of cricket and entertainment.
Shaw wore a midnight blue sherwani for the occasion, while Akriti matched his look in a coordinating designer lehenga. The pair were photographed arriving at the event alongside other high-profile guests.
Prithvi Shaw’s career so far
Prithvi Shaw burst onto the international cricket scene in 2018, scoring a hundred on his Test debut against the West Indies and earning recognition as one of India’s most promising young batsmen.
However, his career has since been marked by inconsistency. Concerns over discipline, fitness and form have at times overshadowed his early success.
In October 2024, Shaw was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad in Mumbai after reports pointed to irregular training attendance, late arrivals and concerns about his fitness.
These problems also affected his journey in the Indian Premier League. Shaw went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, with analysts citing his form and fitness as the main factors.
This trend continued in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, where he initially failed to sell at his base price ₹75 crores during the first rounds.
However, Delhi Capitals eventually picked him up in the latest accelerated round, giving the 25-year-old another opportunity to rebuild his IPL career and silence critics with brilliant performances on the field.
