
An apparently disturbed man has died after allegedly cutting off his own genitalia in downtown Los Angeles, TMZ reported. According to police and an eyewitness, the incident happened on Saturday morning when a man, said to be in his 40s, self-harmed.
Man dies in LA after self-harm
The New York Post reported that the disturbing incident took place not far from the LA Convention Center. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, responding officers found a man self-harming near the intersection of Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
What the police said
TMZ reported that LAPD first received a call about a man hurting himself downtown around 3:40 a.m. After arriving at the scene, police set up a white tent to shield the man’s body from onlookers and preserve the disturbing scene. However, several shots from the location have gone viral on social media. In them, pools of bloodstains were seen on the pavement.
TMS authorities said that apart from cutting off his private part, the man also cut his throat and stabbed himself with a sharp object. He also allegedly tried to cut off his hand.
A reporter for OnScene TV who captured the scene claimed the man had bled to death, the New York Post reported. However, the police have not yet confirmed this detail.
Meanwhile, the LAPD could not confirm the man’s motivation for harming himself. The LA County Medical Examiner will investigate the matter to identify the deceased.

Looking at the visuals from the scene, the clip showed the same white tent on the bloodied sidewalk. Clothes were reportedly seen strewn on the ground alongside even more blood.
The journalist added that the man had taken off his clothes. According to an eyewitness, he was reportedly walking toward a 7/11 store before collapsing.

It remains unknown what tool the man used to injure himself. It is also unclear whether the man was under the influence or on drugs at the time.
