Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged people to remain vigilant about efforts to divide society in the name of caste and religion.
After inaugurating the new Sri Lakshmidevi temple at Shiramahalli village in HD Kote taluk, Mr. Siddaramaiah said faith in God transcends caste and religious boundaries.
He said the people of Shiramahalli are deeply devoted. “We believe that God resides in the idols installed in the temples,” he said.
The social reformer Basavanna and his followers said that God exists everywhere and in everyone. “We must also seek the welfare of others in our prayers. Faith in God transcends caste and religion. Every caste and religion teaches that human beings must love each other,” he said.
He said that vested interests in society promote the caste system and social inequalities. “Attempts are being made to divide society in the name of caste and religion. We must remain vigilant against such divisive forces,” he said.
