Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Sunday claimed to have struck an Israeli refinery in Haifa in retaliation for strikes by Tel Aviv.
“The IRGC will hit the Haifa refinery in response to the Israeli regime’s attack on the Tehran refinery,” Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.
What do we know about the attack?
The IRGC’s public relations department also reportedly said in a statement Saturday night that the attack on the Haifa facility was “in response to (Israel) targeting the Tehran refinery.”
The statement also said the attack was carried out by Kheibar Shekan missiles.
Air raid sirens sounded earlier on Saturday in the Haifa area, but there were no reports of any strikes in Israel, Reuters reported.
The IRGC claim, which has yet to be officially or independently confirmed, came after Israel carried out airstrikes on oil depots.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they hit “several fuel storage complexes” in the Iranian capital on Saturday evening, a claim later confirmed by the country’s national Iranian oil company.
