The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has arrested two persons for illegally selling tickets for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final at exorbitant prices ahead of Sunday’s sensational clash between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch laid a trap near Usmanpura Gujarat Vidyapith ST bus stand where two men were stopped and searched. Eight tickets for the match were obtained from them.

The accused bought the tickets online in advance and sold them at three times the original price, charging fans Rs 10,000 per ticket. All tickets were confiscated and legal proceedings were initiated against both individuals. Police are also investigating whether a wider network is involved in the racket.
The arrests came after Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik warned on Saturday that black market traders would face strict action. Speaking to reporters ahead of the final, Malik said the police had put elaborate security measures in place for the big day.
“Tomorrow, the historic T20 World Cup final will be held here at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Hence, the police have completed all preparations. We are deploying over 3,000 policemen and around 1,000 home guards,” he said, according to PTI.
On the issue of black marketing, Malik was clear. “If we come to know about any such activity, the police will file a criminal complaint. We also have clear instructions from higher authorities to take immediate action against anyone involved in black marketing,” he added.
Malik also said that containment areas have been set up near Gate 1 and Gate 2 to handle the crowds and prevent overcrowding or a stampede-like situation at the stadium entrance.
Sunday’s final is a milestone for Indian cricket. Suryakumar Yadav’s team has a chance to become the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and also the first team to successfully defend the title back-to-back.
With more than 100,000 fans expected to fill the Narendra Modi Stadium, the demand for tickets has been huge, creating fertile ground for enthusiasts looking to make a quick buck.
