Congress MP Karur S. Jothimani said on Saturday that actor-turned-politician and TVK founder Vijay seems to enjoy significant support among Tamil Nadu’s youth and could secure second place in the state’s political scene in the Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi, Ms. Jothimani said, “In my opinion, Mr. Vijay seems to have a lot of support among the youth and he could definitely come in second.”
She claimed that the people of Tamil Nadu will not support the BJP-led alliance in the state. “Tamil Nadu will never vote for the BJP alliance,” she said.
Commenting on the change of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi as “sad news”, the Congress leader said in a sarcastic note that his statements often benefited their alliance politically. She claimed that his remarks were seen by many as anti-Tamil and criticized what she described as attempts to portray Tamil Nadu in a negative light.
His remarks on Tamil culture and portrayal of Thiruvalluvar drew criticism from people in the state, she said, alleging that the governor’s office under him functioned “like an informal headquarters of the BJP”.
Referring to recent political developments in Bihar, including the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Ms Jothimani argued that the BJP has often come to power through political maneuvering rather than electoral strength.
Claiming that after Bihar, the BJP will target the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, she said the upcoming Assembly elections could be the last for the Dravidian major.
